I left Peru and most of my family when I was 5. Every year that I spend away from the place of my earliest memories feels as if a part of me is dying; as if I am fading from this place's memory.

The Peruvian poet Ceasar Vallejo's poem "Los Pasos Lejanos" describes the fading footsteps of his bereaved parents in his home town. This essay is a visual monograph of the place where my heart and spirit still beats, but every day a bit softer.
